St. Mary's, Olveston

St. Mary the Virgin, Olveston

St Mary’s is a beautiful, traditional church building dating back to the early 12th century. It has a very strong music tradition with a choir of over 30 choristers. Special music events are held throughout the year including visiting bands and vocalists. Details can be found on the church’s own website which can be accessed here.

The church also plays host to many groups both within the congregation and in the wider community, such as the Monday Movie Club which shows films, both popular and art house, on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month (except July/August/September).

Many other groups meet together throughout the year, such as Lent, Prayer, Chat, Thursday Coffee Shop (in the Village Stores) etc.

“Outreach” is a major factor in the congregation and in recent years over £70,000 has been raised and used to fund projects in India, Africa and here in Bristol. These include mosquito nets, eyesight healing, a health centre, a clean water pump and a women’s refuge centre.

The church electoral roll stands at around 190.
